Kawarau Bridge Bungy Jump Experience

Now for those of you who are unaware Queenstown, New Zealand is the adrenaline rush capital of the world ( or so its claimed to be.. I completely agree with these claims) there is SOO much to see and do; from sky diving to bungy jumping. There is NEVER a dull moment in Queenstown.

Before I even arrived I knew that bungy jumping was a must do. I decided to take my chances with fate and do the world’s first commercial bungy jump off Kawarau Bridge. All I literally had to do was pay a non-refundable $180( so pretty much you better jump or waste your dough) and sign my life away with one signature to AJ Hackett (may the odds be ever in my favor).

The next thing I knew I was on a bus headed out to bungy. Now first of all I’m not what you would call an “adrenaline junky” and even while flying I still get real nervous about the landing( sometimes) so for my inner conscience the 20 minute ride (which felt like 45) gave me just enough time to contemplate my life goals, dreams, and what the hell I was thinking for doing this.

After my 20 minute life crisis I’m off the bus and headed to what felt like judgment day. It took them 10 minutes to weigh me( thank god it was in Kilos... I had no idea how much I had gained during my travels... nor did I want to know, and being mathematically impaired I had no idea how to convert that number into pounds .. ignorance is bliss or in this case a real confidence booster) after that I was sent on my way to jump.

The two guys who were in charge of my life at that point were making fun of me as I told them my fears of possibly defecating myself out of straight fear. They got my hoisted up and asked if I wanted to be able to touch the water (I figured go big or go home and said sure). The next thing I knew I’m standing on a ledge posing for a camera and the bungy men scream THREE.. Not one.. Not two but straight into three.

I looked back at them and did possibly the worst dive of my life into a four second free fall. I can’t tell you what emotions I felt because I’m pretty sure I blacked out… no like really I think I lost about four seconds of my life due to straight blackoutness..I think if I polished off a 12 pack of bud light platinum i'd have had the same effect. *(side note if you are afraid to bungy just look at it as if your getting hammered: same effects, no hangover, and the ability to say you did indeed complete a bungy jump).

It wasn’t until after when I was dangling from the jump that the adrenaline hit me. I get into the raft, they take the hoist off, and that’s when it all hit me. I felt SO AMAZING. I honestly felt like I was invincible and could do anything at that point in my life (probably one of the most amazing feelings ever).

I start making my way up to reception feeling like a million bucks and look down to see my pants had come down a bit... and pretty much for my entire bungy experience the side of my underwear was hanging out. I’m socially awkward in the sense that I say way too much so naturally I couldn’t let it go and be on my way… I felt the need to apologize to the guys who had to suffer seeing half of my a** hanging out.

I simply say “sorry about the show you got back there.. (The guy looks at me confused).. I continue to say yeah sorry my a** was hanging out half the time.. I hope it doesn’t ruin my pictures.” ( come on you would all be thinking the same thing.. like do you really want to look back on an amazing experience and think OOo wow great pictures but wait what’s that bright green thing on the side of your hip??.. and then realize Oo yeah just my underwear.. no thank you).

He started dying laughing and told me I was the least of their worries and that they had seen far more than that before. This made me feel loads better and even added to my already natural high from the experience.

I feel like bungy is one of those things that once you do it you know your going to do it again. I am most definitely going to be repeating an experience like this and I’m even hoping to get to do a bigger one.. And next time I will be wearing properly fitted pants.

Life experience of amazingness… check
