Queenstown Winter Festival

I just so happened to get lucky enough to make my way to Queenstown for the beginning celebrations of their winter ski season (yes its winter here on this side of the world; while you are all at home getting bronzed and tanned my existence and skin color is turning albino).

There is so much to see and do in this city even without the events of the festival; each day there was one event after another;free concerts, free competitions, runs/walks, free movies, and my all-time favorite thing trivia!! Aside from having all of these options to participate in the city itself is just so amazing with little shops, cafes, and lots of bars (who doesn’t love a place where every other fourth building is a bar or pub?).

I decided to do the hike up to the city’s skyline view opting not to take the gondola. This walk was amazing (exhausting at some points.. or I’m just really out of shape) but I would do it again in a heartbeat. The off path views and the overall experience was breathtaking and amazing( hence this post's picture is just one of the views you get to see from the top).

After my long hike I decided to look at my options for what to do next. I so badly wanted to be able to ski in Queenstown (three of the parks were opening that weekend) but the rental equipment prices were outrageous and it being their opening season lift ticket prices were not cheap! My life goal will be to go back just to ski for a weekend (this will happen I’ve already told myself it will).

So I opted for part- taking in the city’s free winter festival celebrations and that night they had their official opening firework celebration.

I don’t know if it was the amount of people (at least 200), or the beautiful night sky with the mountains in the background but this firework show was one of the best I’ve ever seen

AMAZING! It might even put some of the Fourth of July firework shows I’ve seen to shame! Queenstown is just such an amazing place
